PCOS and Lifestyle Change

In group: Fitness First

My PCOS journey, complications & reversal.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder common among women of reproductive age.

I was diagnosed with PCOS at age 15. I went to numerous dermats (as I had increased cystic acne) and gynecologists for answers and realistic advice. None of them had the answer. If they did- It was to start taking birth control medications which in turn made my PCOS worse.

With nothing working, I decided that the safest bet (as well as the easiest and most affordable) was a LIFESTYLE CHANGE.

I started following Ayurveda and was getting increasingly inclined towards a “Vegan” lifestyle as well. I started my recovery by ditching dairy products for good. A huge influence for this was reading and gaining knowledge from Dr. Michael Greger’s (MD) blog- NutritonFacts.org.

Within a month, I saw drastic changes in my skin, energy levels, and mindset.

With time, I started to limit my intake of gluten (as it can trigger chronic inflammations and symptoms like fatigue, bloating & weight gain)

The best action I could take towards my life with PCOS was a 180-degree change in the way I saw food and nutrition. My skin and hair were flourishing without having to apply “DIY” face maks as highly medicated ointments.

Like many people, I was under the impression that heavy cardio and intense workouts were the answer to shedding those extra pounds and getting rid of my PCOS. Once again, I was wrong.

Overexercising with PCOS can halt weight loss and sometimes make you gain weight.

Thigh targeted workouts, as well as light lifting workouts, are better for PCOS and insulin resistance.
