We're Saying #RIP To These Beauty Trends In 2023
The new year has started with a bang! New year brings a whole new wave of make-up and beauty trends. And we are here to wave adieu to some trends which are not going to make it to 2023.
2022 has seen full-blown glam reappear, along with bleached brows, piles of glitter, and countless Instagram trends so this January our focus will be on letting go of the beauty trends that didn't work for us in 2022. Trust us, there are many of them. We’ve listed few beauty trends we think deserves the throne and which we’re saying #RIP.
Over Lined Lips
This was the biggest beauty trend in the beauty industry and received a love and hate feedback from the audience. Its recent popularity struck when Kylie Jenner, who sparked international debate over whether she had received non-surgical enhancements like dermal fillers, plumped-up lips can also be created by exaggerating the natural lip shape with lip liner. However, overlining has been called upon by makeup artists for decades to create the illusion of plumper lips.
And the opinion seems to be split among the audience, with some referring to the look as "art" and others likening it to those of scary fictional characters.
Tired Look
Who thought they’d ever see the day having tired eyes would be on trend? Not us. In December, Sara Cartens , a model and creator on social media, reached for a brownish lipstick and swiped it beneath her eyes where she would typically apply concealer, posting the footage to TikTok. Her dark circles video has been viewed more than seven million times on TikTok since it was posted, and has circulated on other social media platforms including Instagram.
People of colour always have these dark eye bags because we’re more prone to hyperpigmentation. That’s why let’s call off this trend this year because it does not make sense, if someone loves to wear their dark circles let them be and if someone wants to cover it up with concealer we should let them be.
All matte makeup
Typically oilier skin types are thought of as the best candidate for matte foundations and matte look but with new technology, brands are able to make foundations that aren’t as matte to suit an oily skin. Apparently matte looks do not suit the drier skin types which cause the skin to look cakey.
Even for the oily skin type if you do not moisturise and prep your skin before putting a complete matte foundation it will end up looking cakey and clogging your pores. So, we are not here for this trend at all.
Let us talk about some of the beauty trends which will be a definite hit in 2023!
We are all in for a oh-so natural and dewy look this year with juicy lip gloss and lip toppers. Minimal make-up with a dewy base makes one look younger and we are here for youthful and radiant skin.

Graphic liners are still going strong this year and it is not going anywhere anytime soon. With so many brands developing high-technology eyeliners that do not budge and are smudge-proof, the graphic feline liner look will be one to wear for a fun night out.

Blush has been experiencing a renaissance in recent years, with blendable cream options and more-is-more application methods making cheeks (and eyes and the bridges of noses) romantically rosy. There was a moment when it was only about bronzer and highlighter, but blush is back and bolder than ever. Adding blush is like adding life back to the skin. The trend already has legs, having served as the main factor in several of 2022’s most memorable TikTok beauty looks.
